Performance FAQ

How long does a performance last?

One performance set lasts between 10 and 15 minutes depending on the choice of music. You can book multiple performance sets of this length but you will need to allow a break of at least 10 minutes between each one.

Will you bring your own music?

I will bring music either on iPod or CD depending on your sound system, so you will need to tell me about it in advance. If you do not have a sound system I can bring my own speakers but these will not be suitable for large outdoor events (a proper PA system is preferable).

What do I need to provide?

A sound system, a parking space, a clear performance area with a suitable floor (clean, not bare earth or concrete) and a private changing area.

What does a typical performance involve?

For most audiences I will dance to variety of fast, exciting music which may include the use of props such as veil, stick or sagat. If you would like to see a particular prop please ask, but bear in mind that veil and stick are not suitable for confined spaces. I do not dance with fire or snakes. If you would like specific styles of music, for example, folkloric, I will do my best to accommodate that.

Will there be audience participation?

This depends on your audience! I like to get people up to dance with me but I will respect the wishes of anyone who prefers to sit and watch. If you would like a performance set of party music to get people up and dancing I can provide that. Alternatively you might want to add a mini-lesson to your package so everyone can learn a few moves and dance with me.

What kind of costumes will you wear?

You can see examples of my costumes on the gallery page. If you would prefer a more modest, covered look I can accommodate that.

Will your performance be family-friendly?

How do I book you for a performance?

Email me your requirements along with the date, time and location of your event and I will put together a quote for you. If you are happy with that I will send a contract for you to sign. You will need to return the contract along with a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking. Any changes to the contract after this may incur further fees which you will be informed of. The balance of the fee will be payable on the day of the event.

How much do you charge?

The exact cost of your performance will depend on number of factors. As a rough guide, one performance in central Cambridge will cost £120 for 25 minutes split over two sets. If the two sets are more than an hour apart there will be an extra charge. Any additional sets will cost £50. Outside of Cambridge there will be travel fees added on and if the performance is to take place after midnight you will be charged extra.

What kind of events do you dance at?

I have performed at weddings, birthday parties (for adults and children), fundraising events, festivals, May balls, restaurants, college formal halls, hen nights…any event wanting an exciting performance to liven things up!

I am holding a charitable event. Will you waive your fee?

For some charitable events I will only ask for travel expenses. However, I am only able to offer a limited number of these performances per year.
